OECD – Our mission

The mission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world.

The OECD provides a forum in which governments can work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems. We work with governments to understand what drives economic, social and environmental change. We measure productivity and global flows of trade and investment. We analyse and compare data to predict future trends. We set international standards on a wide range of things, from agriculture and tax to the safety of chemicals.

We look, too, at issues that directly affect the lives of ordinary people, like how much they pay in taxes and social security, and how much leisure time they can take. We compare how different countries’ school systems are readying their young people for modern life, and how different countries’ pension systems will look after their citizens in old age.

Drawing on facts and real-life experience, we recommend policies designed to make the lives of ordinary people better. We work with business, through the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD, and with labour, through the Trade Union Advisory Committee. We have active contacts as well with other civil society organisations. The common thread of our work is a shared commitment to market economies backed by democratic institutions and focused on the wellbeing of all citizens. Along the way, we also set out to make life harder for the terrorists, tax dodgers, crooked businessmen and others whose actions undermine a fair and open society.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), is an international economic organisation of 34 countries.

The OECD promotes policies designed:
to achieve the highest sustainable economic growth and employment and a rising standard of living in Member countries, while maintaining financial stability, and thus to contribute to the development of the world economy;
– to contribute to sound economic expansion in Member as well as nonmember countries in the process of economic development; and
– to contribute to the expansion of world trade on a multilateral, nondiscriminatory basis in accordance with international obligations.

As an international organisation the terms of employment of the OECD Secretariat staff are not governed by the laws of the country in which their offices are located. Agreements with the host country safeguard the organisation’s impartiality with regard to the host and member countries. Hiring and firing practices, working hours and environment, holiday time, pension plans, health insurance and life insurance, salaries, expatriation benefits and general conditions of employment are managed according to rules and regulations associated with the OECD.

Mr Angel Gurría, OECD Secretary-General

Dear Sir

As an old pensionado (born 1928) I cannot communicate to members of “Occupy” in the whole world. I hope you’ll be able to do so.

In their publications I never see they have knowledge of “Corporate governance”, in different countries known under other names as “Good Practices”. Since I know a lot of countries in their laws, or voluntary agreements, address also this corporate governance to malpractices from speculators, in banking and insurance, I do not understand why OECD has not answered publicly to Occupy’s needs. They need worldwide to know what OECD already does against malpractices of speculators, banking and insurance corporations.

I ask and hope you will worldwide send information to Occupy, but also to all members of the world-society. Occupy lets us see there is something wrong, in my opinion you are obliged to let the world-society know that a lot of OECD-members (governments that is) have already succeeded in their fight against malpractices. And that you’re still fighting.

In my opinion a great part of the world-society has not enough patience, hence there is the movement of Occupy. Please tell the world you’re working on it, so they’ll understand they are not alone. Please write a letter to the world, advertise this letter in the newsmedia. Answer that you and the governments speed up.

Of course I know that 7.000.000.000 can reach out to get information at your OECD about your work, OECD’s work.

I suggest, you reach out to the whole world-society.

My English is not my motherlanguage, otherwise I could have pressed you in stronger words, still polite of course, haha.

Warm greetings, yours

Occupy world – helpt seminar “Corporate Governance” ?

Geboren 1928.
